Overview:

This song was written by written by Andrew Peterson and Ben Shive.  It was recorded by Peterson earlier in 2018.  He notes that he has been attending a liturgical church for the last few years and it rehearses the story of salvation.  I think it is one of the most powerful worship songs I have ever heard.  One because it is all resounding with scripture.  Two because it asks and answers themes and quotations throughout the Bible.  Three because the audience is part of the worship response.  Four because it is the salvation story.

Chris Tomlin, Is He Worthy.

Do you feel the world is broken?
(We do)

Commentary:  We know intrinsically and by observance that the world is desperately broken.  We see it in Gods curse on the earth after mans sin and in Genesis 6:11 where it says that the earth was corrupt before God.

Do you feel the shadows deepen?
(We do)

Commentary:  Psalms 37:35  I have seen ruthless evil men growing in influence, like a green tree grows in its native soil.

But do you know that all the dark won’t stop the light from getting through?
(We do)

Commentary and text:  Job 12:22; Job 38:19; Isaiah 9:1 (Jesus prophetic prophesy); Isaiah 50:10; Micah 7:8; Luke 1:79; Acts 26:18; 1 Corinthians 4:5

Do you wish that you could see it all made new?
(We do)

Commentary:  Romans 8:23; 2 Corinthians 5:2:  For in this tent (body) we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling.  Also, see the book of Revelation.

Is all creation groaning?
(It is)

Commentary: Romans 8:23:  And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

Is a new creation coming?
(It is)

Commentary:  Revelation 21:2;  And I saw the holy city – the new Jerusalem – descending out of heaven from God, made ready like a bride adorned for her husband.

Is the glory of the Lord to be the light within our midst?
(It is)

Commentary: Exodus 16:10; Exodus 24:17;

Is it good that we remind ourselves of this?
(It is)

Commentary:  God wants us to be reminded and to remember.  Exodus 13:3;   Exodus 20:8; Deuteronomy 8:2 & 18; Deuteronomy 15:15:  Egypt is not only a real place, but an example or type of when we were in sin.;  Judges 8:34;  Hebrews 2:3.

Chorus:

Is anyone worthy?  Is anyone whole?
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?
The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave
He is David’s root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave

Is anyone worthy?  A rhetorical question.  See Matthew 10:38 and many such verses   Is anyone whole?  See Romans 3:23, we have all fallen short, we are not whole.  See Revelation 5:5:  Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.

Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
Of all blessing and honor and glory
Is He worthy of this?
He is

Commentary:  Revelation 5:2 and many such verses; And I saw a strong angel proclaimin with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?”

Does the Father truly love us?
(He does)

Commentary:  Romans 8:35, 37-39

Does the Spirit move among us?
(He does)

Commentary:  2 Corinthians 3:3; Galatians 5:22; Romans 12:9-13

And does Jesus, our Messiah hold forever those He loves?
(He does)

Commentary:  There are over 22 verses in the Bible about God keeping those he loves:  Psalm 37:28; For the Lord loves justice And does not forsake His godly ones; They are preserved forever, But the descendants of the wicked will be cut off.  Proverbs 2:8; Guarding the paths of justice, And He preserves the way of His godly ones.  See also Psalm 27:1.

Does our God intend to dwell again with us?
(He does)

Commentary:  Revelation 21:3:  And I heart a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.  See also:  Zecharriah 2:10; Ezekiel 43:9; Numbers 35:34.

Is anyone worthy?
Is anyone whole?
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?
The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave
He is David’s root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave
From every people and tribe
Every nation and tongue
He has made us a kingdom and priests to God
To reign with the Son

Is He worthy?Is He worthy?
Of all blessing and honor and glory
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
Is He worthy of this?
He is!
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
He is!
He is!
